New Electricity price for August and September after Tariff Cut
In a move to ease the burden on inflation-stricken citizens, the Punjab government has announced a significant reduction in electricity rates for the months of August and September. Here are the key details:
Discounted Rates:
Consumers using up to 500 units will benefit from a Rs14 per unit discount on their electricity bills.
The new rates apply specifically to the months of August and September.
Allocation of Funds:
The government has reallocated Rs45 billion from the developmental budget to fund this relief initiative.
Approximately 2.5 crore consumers are expected to benefit from this measure, which costs Rs50 billion in total.
Tariff Breakdown (per unit):
1 – 100 units: Rs. 12.21
101 – 200 units: Rs. 14.53
201 – 300 units: Rs. 31.51
301 – 400 units: Rs. 38.41
401 – 500 units: Rs. 41.62
Additional Initiatives:
The federal government has also introduced a three-month relief program for electricity lifeline consumers (using up to 200 units per month).
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Roshan Gharana” program provides free solar panels to households using up to 200 units and subsidized panels for those using up to 500 units. Consumers are responsible for only 10% of the cost, repayable through an interest-free five-year loan.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged other provinces to implement similar programs to benefit their residents
